Breeder Watch Program

American Pet Cross believes that responsible breeding of all animals ensures that animals of all types can be available for many generations to enjoy their companionship and love.

American Pet Cross supports responsible breeding and breeders. While we believe that the number of good breeders far outnumbers the bad ones, we do know that many abuses occur across the country in all types of situations. Malnourished, overbred, ill-kept animals create heartache and trouble for everyone involved with a breeder who violates policies of decency and humaneness.

At American Pet Cross we are committed to eliminating the bad breeders around the country and establishing national standards for the breeding and care of animals used for breeding. That’s why we have established the American Pet Cross Breeder Watch Program to help Americans report the situations where animals are being kept inappropriately while being bred.

In order to report a suspicious breeder under the American Pet Cross Breeder Watch Program, simply send an e-mail to breederwatch@americanpetcross.net and describe the situation, location, and identity, if possible, of the suspicious activity. You may also send cell phone pictures or videos of those situations. Your tip will remain completely anonymous. Once we receive your tip we will contact the appropriate animal control department in that particular jurisdiction. The report will stay in our system until we receive a response from the animal control department we have referred the case to.

Roughly 17,000 animals per day are euthanized in the United States. While not all of these are the result of irresponsible breeding practices, many of these animals come from those situations because they are abandoned, malnourished, sick, or diseased.

Take time today to help us identify and eliminate those who would cause harm to animals in order to profit.
