Mayor Pat McCrory proclaims September as SAVE ONE month in Charlotte
by Dan Taylor, Founder-American Pet Cross

On Monday evening, August 25th, Mayor Pat McCrory, along with Charlotte City Council proclaimed September as SAVE ONE month in Charlotte. SAVE ONE is a collaboration among three animal welfare organizations in Charlotte: American Pet Cross, Animal Care and Control, and Humane Society of Charlotte. The focus of SAVE ONE is to bring awareness to the Charlotte community of the needs of animals around disease, abuse, abandonment, and disaster support. SAVE ONE asks each citizen to literally SAVE ONE of the nearly 13,000 animals that are euthanized per year in Charlotte due to over breeding, neglect, or abandonment.

The SAVE ONE project in Charlotte is a unique collaboration possible only by the visional leadership of the three organizations above. It represents a groundbreaking example of teamwork that the Charlotte founders hope will be duplicated across the country. The goal of SAVE ONE is to reduce the euthanasia rate in this country by 50% over the next decade.
